What is website hosting?
|
| Simply put, it's a big powerful computer or
"server" attached to the world wide web with personal space
on it for you to store or "publish" your website so that it
becomes visible to people using the internet. |
| |
How much does website hosting cost?
|
| That depends on the amount of space and the
number of features that are required. Our advice is start
off small and upgrade should you need to. You should allow
about £60 per year for professional small business use.
|
| |
| There are a number of ISP's or Internet
Service Providers that we can offer you that will host your
website and provide email facilities both for access by
programs such as outlook or outlook express and web based
email whereby you simply go to a website and access your
email wherever you are in the World. |
| |
I already have website space with my Internet Service
Provider, can I use that instead?
|
| You can but we wouldn't recommend it for
business websites because there is no user access to the
root directory where important files must reside. One
analogy being that using your existing web space provided by
your existing internet service provider, your website would
be stored in C:\mywesbsitespace\mywebsite when ideally it should be
kept in C:\*.* (the root). |
| |
| Also, in our opinion, we feel it gives a
more professional look and inspires more customer confidence
when your website URL or "address" is, for
example, www.mybusiness.etc rather than www.yourisp/mybusiness.etc. |
| |
| For a family or personal website, using
your existing website space is satisfactory because the
special files that need to be kept in the root are usually
not required. |
| |
How do you get the website files onto that computer
that's attached to the World Wide Web?
|
| That process is called uploading and a
special program is used to do that. When all the files have
been uploaded, the website is ready to use and visible to
anyone connected to the internet. |
| |
I wouldn't know where to start to try and upload website
files. Can you do all that for me?
|
| Yes, of course. Our objective here is to
help the customer as much as possible and let them get on
with running their business. If you want to get involved and
learn about the technical processes then we'll teach you. |
